That package just happens to be installed by default. it is not an “in-box” app so much as it is an “app package” that can be easily added to or removed from Windows. This means it was not exactly part of Windows. I often refer to “the old” Quick Assist as the “built-in” or “in-box” version of Quick Assist, but if you want to get really nit-picky about it, Quick Assist is (was?) actually a Feature on Demand (FoD) “capability” of Windows. But maybe let’s just remove the old app completely to avoid the whole series of hoops to jump through.įirst, I’ll show you how the removal could be done manually, and then I’ll show you how do it on all your managed devices. So, it “works”, and you do get there… eventually.

Running the old app will say to get the new version from the Store, and the Store says the new app is already installed, and clicking the “ Open” button will finally run it. And that’s precisely what we do NOT want. When clicking Start and typing “ Quick Assist” to just search for it, both the old and the new apps are still listed in the results, and the old app happens to be the ‘best match’ so naturally, that’s the one a user would most likely run. Going to the “ All Apps” list in the Start menu and scrolling down to the Q’s section, only the new Quick Assist is shown.

Here we can see that 2.0.6.0 is installed on the device. The old icon isn’t shown in the Start menu, but the old app is still installed. Removed by the New App?Īccording to the FAQ for the Store app, “ If you are currently running version 2.0.6.0 or higher you will no longer see two icons.” And this is … well, partly true.
